Glasgow home wins seal of approval from national care watchdog

June 5th 2015

Care UK’s Wellmeadow Lodge care home in Glasgow has been given the seal of approval by a national care watchdog.

i-rcs-kingsfield-living-area-2-march2015-webAt an unannounced visit by the Care Inspectorate, inspectors found that the home in Meadow Way meets the Government’s standards of quality and safety which is assessed by looking at the following areas:

  • Quality of care and support
  • Quality of environment
  • Quality of staffing
  • Quality of management and leadership.

During their visit to the home, which provides specialist care for older people, some of whom have dementia, the inspectors talked informally to the team and examined the home’s administrative systems and processes.

“The staff within the service showed care and compassion for the service users they cared for and supported” began the report written earlier this year. “They worked as a team to ensure each person came first and foremost”.

Home Manager Sharon Mcgowan said: “I am delighted that we reached the high standard set out by the Government and I was even more delighted that the inspectors highlighted how the team works to respect people's privacy, dignity and independence.”

The report commented on the activities within the home and the receptiveness of the management. It was reported that both the manager and the staff at Wellmeadow Lodge had “used very good audits to measure service improvement”.

Sharon said: “Everyone at Wellmeadow Lodge, including the kitchen and maintenance teams, strives to ensure that we create genuinely individual care for each resident.

“To do that, we ensure we get to know each person, their history and their interests, so that we can tailor each care plan to maintain their independence, life skills and sense of wellbeing.”

The reported concluded with: “The staff team are very good at supporting and encouraging service users to take positive decisions through the use of individual choices to ensure they achieve their potential and have demonstrated a flexible approach.”
