Ventress Hall was a sea of pink recently as the home had a great day of fun and activities raising funds and awareness for breast cancer charities.
Activities Coordinator Sarah Waggitt, who has had her own battle with breast cancer, said, “Everyone had a wonderful time. Everyone turned up to work in pink, some with wigs, and many of the residents found something pink to wear.”
Sarah said the residents particularly enjoyed the naughty but nice pink chocolate fountain. “Sandie Flinn, who helped organise the event, covered it in pink ribbons and put it on a trolley so that everyone could have a taste.”
There was also a very successful pink raffle and cake sale with cakes baked by our own nurse Jan Sturgeon. Chef Barry Titcombe created a beautiful pink ribbon cake which was won by our 100-year-old resident Mrs Evelyn Chidgey who very generously gave it to the residents, who all enjoyed a slice with their afternoon cup of tea.
The Wear it Pink event, held for Breast Cancer Research, raised £209. Our evening Go Pink event, for Break Through Breast Cancer, was organised by Sarah and her fellow team member and cousin Helen Baker. The event, which included a pub-style quiz and a mystery box contest, raised another £160.
