Whitby Dene is inviting local people to join in its celebrations for Care Home Open Day.
On Friday 20th April, from 2pm-4.30pm, the team at Whitby Dene will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
Whitby Dene has organised a Commonwealth themed party to celebrate the open day, with residents making homemade bunting inspired by countries from around the Commonwealth, to decorate the home. Visitors can look forward to watching the first day of Whitby Dene vs The Burroughs care home in West Drayton Commonwealth Games, including an eight-mile torch relay between the two homes and a lighting of the flame ceremony. Over two days, residents will be participating in various sporting competitions to see which home will be crowned the winners of the inaugural games and are hoping that the local communities will join them to cheer them along.
The opening ceremony at Whitby Dene will feature a marching band performance and parade of nation flags. Visitors can also try delicious food dishes inspired by different Commonwealth countries.
Saad Baig, home manager at Whitby Dene, said: “We’ve already had a brilliant start to the year at Whitby Dene, and our Care Home Open Day celebrations are set to be a real highlight. The day is all about enriching the lives of residents by building lasting relationships with the community, so what better excuse to invite the people of Eastcote to the home.
“We have so much planned and the residents are excited to decorate the home with their homemade bunting and take part in an inter-home sporting event. We cannot wait to open our doors for this special celebration.”
