Lights, Camera, Action at Field Lodge!

June 20th 2014

Care UK’s Field Lodge care home took centre stage earlier this week when ITV East Anglia visited to film a news item about dementia.

With the G8 Legacy meeting taking place in London on Thursday 19 June, dementia has been hitting the headlines once again.  Ahead of the summit, World Dementia Envoy Dr Gillings said progress on treatment for dementia had been ‘achingly slow’, and Prime Minister David Cameron used the meeting of world leaders to put the spotlight on finding a cure for dementia, calling for more action into dementia research.

For the regional news broadcast, Field Lodge Home Manager, Matthew Cox, was joined by Mr Rood – husband of Field Lodge resident, Julie Rood.

ITV East Anglia presenter Claire McGlasson interviewed a representative from Alzheimer’s Research UK based in Cambridge about the charity’s pledge to spend £100 million on research into the causes, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of dementia.

Matthew Cox joined the discussion by giving the benefit of his experience caring for people living with dementia.  He talked about how the care home environment and its programme of ‘activity based care’ have been designed to assist and support residents who are living with dementia.

Matthew’s comments were backed up by the personal insights of Mr Rood, who shared his own experiences and talked about the impact his wife’s condition has had on him and his family.
