Home news

Bickerton House has announced the appointment of its home manager.

Care UK has appointed Erika Smith as home manager at its new home, Bickerton House, on Warfield Road.

Erika will lead the team at the new care home when it opens in January 2020, having previously worked as a nurse for 25 years.

Erika started her career as a registered mental health nurse in 1994. Following that she went on to be a hospital director, before joining Care UK this year. Her new position will see her take responsibility for the day-to-day running of Bickerton House, which will accommodate up to 77 residents.

Erika has been credited with the ability to handle complex professional challenges, such as turning around a hospital that was failing and rated as ‘Inadequate’ by the CQC – to achieve a rating of ‘Good’.

Commenting on her new position, Erika said: “I’m delighted to have been appointed as the home manager at Bickerton House. Having worked as a Registered Mental Health nurse for over 25 years, I know that working at Care UK would be the perfect fit for me as the business shares my values of ensuring residents continue to live active and fulfilled lives.

“Having the opportunity to start at a brand new care home, and create a welcoming, home-from-home environment for the residents, their families, and our team, is something I’m really looking forward to. I’m excited to start my new journey with Care UK.”
