Patients Give Top Marks to Local Treatment Centre

June 25th 2009

New statistics show that patients treated at the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre rate the service very highly.

The Centre has been open since October last year and the first patient survey results from an independent audit carried out for the Department of Health show that patients gave the service top marks on numerous measures including: overall performance, how they are treated and cleanliness.

Key findings include:

95% of patients rated their care as excellent, very good or good
89% of patients said they were always treated with respect and dignity
91% of patients rated their ward as very clean

Comments from patients included: “I was very impressed with every aspect of the service. I have written to my surgeon, his nurses and staff, to express my thanks”; “I have never had such a good stay in hospital as I did here, everyone was caring and kind in every way”; “The care was outstanding. Everything was spotless.”

Paula Friend, General Manager of Southampton NHS Treatment Centre, said: “We are delighted that patients rate the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre so highly.  It is providing a quality service to local people and I praise the staff for the job they are doing.  This is the first patient survey results for the Centre so we will be looking to improve the service even further in the coming months.”

Grant Rex, Managing Director of Care UK Secondary Care Services, said: “Care UK Treatment Centres are safe, well liked by patients and highly performing.  We have never had a single case of hospital acquired MRSA.  Independent Sector Treatment Centres are helping the NHS to continue to improve and remain a vital member of the NHS family.”

Southampton NHS Treatment Centre is a brand new, state of the art facility and provides high quality specialist treatments in 9 specialties for the people of Hampshire, including Southampton and surrounding areas.  The Treatment Centre only treats NHS patients.
