Rustington nursing home receives 'Good' rating from inspectors

September 15th 2009

Care UK’s Darlington Court care home at Rustington, West Sussex, has been rated “Good” by inspectors from the Care Quality Commission.

The 61-bed home that cares for frail older people, including those with physical disabilities, also has a separate unit, for older people suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease and other related illnesses. It was the subject of an unannounced visit in July from the independent regulator of health and social care in England.

The rating recognises a good turnaround in quality at Darlington Court.

The main findings were that the home is clean and spacious and consideration has been given to making it suitable to people with dementia. There is a relaxed atmosphere and friendly rapport between residents and staff; and residents and their relatives say they are well looked after and are safe in the home.

Since the last report, inspectors noted that the assessment process had improved, assuring prospective residents that Darlington Court could met their needs before they move in. A system of staff supervision has been introduced and staffing levels are good with shifts fully covered.

Maizie Mears-Owen, Service Development Manager for Care UK said: “The staff team is committed and work very hard to achieve a homely caring environment for the residents, their families and friends.
It was the team’s hard work, commitment and enthusiasm that assisted in gaining the “Good” rating from CQC. I am very proud of them and what they have achieved at Darlington Court.

“This is a real positive for the Home Manager, Linda Clements, to lead the team and home forward in its continued success.”

Linda Clements, Home Manager of Darlington Court, said: “I am delighted and proud of the achievements made at Darlington Court by the whole team over the last 12 months. The result is a reflection of their determination and enthusiasm to provide an outstanding service for our clients, relatives and colleagues.

Good is the second highest level given by the Care Quality Commission and to achieve that a home has to have some excellent outcomes.
