Residents at Sherwood Grange recently attended the floral extravaganza at the Wisley Flower Show.
After being gently lulled by walking past a serene pond complete with water fountain, the residents’ senses were shaken up with the most wonderful display of Dahilas – who knew Dahilas came in so many shapes, sizes and colours? “They look just like pompoms” said Marion, one of the residents.
Residents continued to wander around and feast their eyes on giant gladioli, delicate fuchsias and the most wonderful lilies they had ever seen. One of the residents’ faces was a picture of excitement as she exclaimed “ah… they are so beautiful, I really love flowers… I do!”
A cup of coffee whilst listening to music from the bandstand then refreshed residents’ energies before setting off to look at the amazing ‘Glasshouse.’ Entering the ‘Glasshouse’ was described to feel like entering a huge tropical cathedral, filled with tree ferns, tall palms, lush leaved creepers and dazzling flowers.
“Phew” said Jean, one of the residents, “it feels like we are on an island” as she walked through the three climatic zones, looking up to the ceiling and down on the jungle canopy below.
A hot dog lunch sat in the sunshine, complete with a family of hopeful looking ducks, was in order after such exertions. “I didn’t know ducks liked meat” said Mollie as one of the ducks took a bite out of Laura’s finger – “that will teach her not to feed the wild life” said another resident as laughter spread amongst everyone.
