The Potteries has launched an innovative ‘Magic Table’, which is leading the way in dementia activity care.

The Potteries unveils cutting edge ‘Magic Table’ technology

The home unveiled the Magic Table to the community during a free event where locals were invited to test out the technology.

The Magic Table, also known as Tovertafel,is an innovative piece of kit that has been specifically designed tomotivate the mind and inspire those living with dementia to be active. It is made up of a series of interactive light animations that are projected onto the table, and included activities such as catching butterflies, sweeping up leaves, throwing a beach ball and solving nostalgic puzzles.

At the launch event, guests enjoyed playing the interactive games, watching the animations and being able to play against other guests and residents. Alongside the games, visitors watched a film about the Magic Table in the home’s cinema, tucked into complimentary refreshments, and took a tour of the care home.

Zita Turner, home manager at The Potteries, said: “The Magic Table launch was a great success, and we were thrilled the local community took the time to come and watch us unveil this exciting addition to the home. Guests thoroughly enjoyed trying out the games and seeing the colourful animations.

“We hope that the table will provide an interactive experience for residents living with or without dementia, and create wonderful moments with family members and carers.”

Mehdi Bedioui, co-founder of the Magic Table, added: “The Magic Table creates treasured moments with family members and carers. We know a care home where a 102-year-old resident plays with her two-year-old great granddaughter - creating invaluable memories for the family. The games have been designed to stimulate wonder and enjoyment and we hope the residents at The Potteries will get a lot of joy from using the table.”
