Treatment Centre Physio competes for Unicef!

August 4th 2010

As a Physiotherapist for the Southampton NHS Treatment Centre, Mike Hickson is used to ensuring other people are fit and able to lead an active lifestyle – however this weekend his own fitness will be put to the test, as he takes part in the London Triathlon at Canary Wharf on Saturday 7th August.

The Triathlon involves an accumulative swim, bike ride and run amounting to approximately 40 Km. Mike will be competing against over 1100 people across the world, including TV Presenter Vernon Kay, to raise money for UNICEF, the world’s leading child rights organisation that raises valuable funds for aid projects worldwide.  Mike is raising money for a number of causes, but primarily the humanitarian aid effort in Haiti.

Mike said: “As soon as I saw the devastation in Haiti it has become a situation I feel very passionate about.  I felt I had to do something to help raise awareness of the aid effort in the country, but also raise valuable funds for the cause.  I like to think I’m relatively fit and have been training hard for the Triathlon, which will be a big test for me.  I’d like to thank my colleagues, family and friends for the donations they have made and hope to repay them with a decent performance!”
