Understanding Dementia event returns to The Potteries

January 16th 2017

The Potteries is inviting the local community to its free event for families caring for a loved one living with dementia.

On Thursday 19th January from 2pm - 4pm, The Potteries will open the doors to the care home for its Understanding Dementia event.

Dementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, will be on hand to help people understand what it might be like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers. The aim is to help people discover positive approaches to caring for loved ones living with dementia.

After the event there will be a Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the chance to meet the team at The Potteries, as well as take a closer look at the care home.

Zita Turner, home manager at The Potteries, said: “Here at The Potteries we strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference to the everyday lives of those caring for loved ones living with dementia.

“Previous events have proven to be incredibly popular, so we are looking forward to welcoming local people to The Potteries for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

The Potteries, our care home in Broadstone, on the outskirts of Poole, is a light, bright and welcoming care home with its own café, hair salon and cinema.

Our colleagues receive the latest training and learn all they can about your loved one so they can support them to live each day to the full. Activities are designed around your loved one’s interests and if there’s something they’d like to do, our lifestyle team will organise it for them. We have strong ties with local community groups and schools, which we continue to build on with virtual concerts and Zoom-based activities.
