Daily life

The Norfolk House team tailors every aspect of day-to-day life to your loved one’s individual interests, needs and wishes.

We understand that, if your loved one is doing the things they enjoy, supported by people they like and trust, they will feel secure and happy. When your loved one joins us, we find out everything we can about them, so we can make each day as meaningful as possible for them. 

Some residents do small, routine tasks around the home and garden, and get involved in decision-making, and we also support all residents to help shape our menus or activity programmes. If a resident wants to go out somewhere or has an idea for an activity, we’ll always try to make it happen. 

Activities for everyone

Our lifestyle team ensures that there’s always something going on at Norfolk House, from board games and quizzes to pottery and gentle exercise classes – as well as pamper sessions (we have our own hair salon). We might pop out to the local park, or a garden centre, and in the summer, we often head to the coast. During COVID, we’ve done our best to keep life as normal as fulfilling for residents as we can. That’s included adapting activities, such as sports and exercise, so it’s socially distanced and safe, and using home tablets to bring entertainment into the home and stay connected by new means. 

Norfolk House plays an active role in community life and we lend our support to local efforts to preserve the character of our lovely neighbourhood. We hold regular religious services here, and support residents to visit their church in the local community. 

During COVID, we’ve been able to continue these relationships as well as build new ones, using technology such as tablets as well as traditional methods to keep in touch with loved ones. We’ve even made some new friends in our wonderful community who have supported us during this time.

Enjoying good food

Mealtimes are a real highlight of the day at Norfolk House. Our dining rooms are laid out in a bistro style, with small tables all beautifully laid. There’s always plenty of choice, including residents’ favourite dishes. All tastes and diets are catered for too. Food and drink also play a part in our activities, with residents enjoying sherry afternoons and cream teas. What’s more, when residents celebrate birthdays or anniversaries, we always produce a homemade cake to mark the occasion.
