Care UK homes celebrated National Poetry Day last October with over 40 events ranging from poetry readings to library visits.
Founded in 1994 by the Forward Arts Foundation, this annual event celebrates poetry’s power to bring people together, and this year’s theme was ‘Change’.
Poetry isn’t just for one day
Residents, local people, poetry societies and pupils had a brilliant time on 4th October. We were even featured on ITV London News.
We’re going to keep enjoying poetry throughout the year and hope you will do the same with your friends and relatives.
Tips for everyday activities
The sharing of poetry is just one of hundreds of creative ideas for fun and meaningful activities families can enjoy, especially if they are caring for an older loved one at home and want to try something new.
Our ‘As easy as ABC’ guide is full of ideas and tips for activities, including writing your own poetry, trying new crafts, sparking memories and creating conversations, as well as other suggestions for days out and advice on the practical ways of helping older people to maintain their independence.
