I’ve always worked in care: I started as a care assistant at the age of 18 and have worked my way up. I first began managing care homes in 2012, and I joined Care UK in 2016.
Even though I’ve worked in care for a long time, I still enjoy seeing the difference we make to residents’ lives. And I love any chance I get to spend time with the residents. The atmosphere at Riverside is a little different to what you’ll experience in other Care UK homes because we care for younger and older people here. It makes every day interesting. For example, helping younger people to enjoy fulfilling lives is very much focused on helping them to get out and about to see bands or socialise.
Since I joined Riverside, I’ve been working hard with the team to enhance different aspects of care and everyday life for residents. Working with the lifestyle team, we’ve been focusing on making residents’ wishes come true. Some people have wanted a personal shopping trip, while others have wanted to go to music concerts – each wish is unique and great to fulfil.
Outside of work I’m kept busy by my three young children, so I don’t get much time to myself. But we do like to go out for family meals, which I look forward to.
