Tania Moore has been manager of Sidegate Lane care home in Ipswich, Suffolk since 1994. She explains her approach to being a care home manager.
I started my career as a nurse, working in hospitals and then later in private nursing. I gained experience of many different areas of nursing care, including care of older people. Since moving into the residential care sector, I’ve worked at a number of care homes in Suffolk. Before joining the Sidegate Lane team I was deputy manager at Blyford and prior to that I was assistant manager at Crabbe Street.
I see my role as manager as being a bit like conducting an orchestra! I enjoy being able to support my colleagues to deliver the highest possible standards of care, with each resident treated as an individual. I like to spend as much time as I can with residents and their families, and it’s so rewarding when we get good feedback from family members.
Outside of work I spend quite a bit of time visiting family and friends who are scattered around the UK and overseas in places such as Germany and Tunisia. I know how important family is, so I make sure that residents’ relatives know that they’re absolutely welcome to visit their loved ones at Sidegate Lane any time they want to.
