We understand that some people prefer individual activities, so we always make time for residents one-to-one and support them to do an activity of their choice – or simply to sit and have a chat and a cup of tea.
We love outings – and animals
We're lucky in so many ways. We're in a superb location, close to the Essex coast, so there are lots of fantastic places to explore, from Colchester Museum to Mersea Island, Walton on the Naze, and Colchester Zoo. We also have our own minibus, which means we can go wherever we want to, whenever we want to.
With our amazing grounds, we also have the space to be able to care for some of our own animals. Residents enjoy feeding the ducks on our duck pond and they love to admire our visiting peacock, Percy. We have our own quail too, as well as budgies, a tortoise and a home dog, Archie. Residents are in their element when they’re caring for them.
Enjoying delicious food every day
Mealtimes at Silversprings are always very sociable occasions. Our Head Chef creates menus using the freshest ingredients, designed around residents' favourite dishes. Residents choose what they would like at each meal, and can enjoy seconds or thirds if they wish! We cater for different cultural and religious needs, as well as special diets. There's always an array of tempting homemade cakes and biscuits available throughout the day.
Supporting residents to look and feel their best
Two local GP practices serve Silversprings and there are regular visits from chiropodists, opticians and a reflexologist. We have our own hair salon, with visiting hairdressers too. There are also regular religious services held at the home, and we happily support residents who wish to attend a local church.
A part of the community
Silversprings is very much a part of the local community. We lend our support to events taking place in Thorrington and the surrounding areas, and local Scottish and country dancing groups regularly come to the home to entertain us all with some lively music and dancing.
