At Wade House care home in Stowmarket, Suffolk, we offer a wide range of engaging activities and outings, all based around residents’ own interests.
We encourage residents to stay as active and independent as possible by getting involved in the day-to-day life of the home – it’s something we call Activity Based Care. Some residents enjoy lending a hand with light household chores, while others like to get stuck into some gardening. We also hold monthly residents’ meetings where we chat about all aspects of life at the home, including what activities residents would like to try.
Activities for everyone
Some of the popular activities we offer include gentle exercise classes, baking, news review sessions, dominoes, cards and word games. Suffolk Artlink provides regular arts and crafts workshops for residents and professional performers visit to entertain us all with some musical entertainment.
We like to get out and about in the local area as much as possible – Bury St Edmunds Cathedral and Abbey Gardens is a particular favourite with residents. And our summer trips to the seafront at Felixstowe are guaranteed to be a big hit.
Enjoying good food
Mealtimes are a sociable occasion at Wade House care home and we’re always happy to make extra space for residents’ loved ones to join us. Our afternoon teas and barbecues are great fun and from time to time we have ‘themed days’, with menus that celebrate occasions such as St Patrick’s Day and Valentine’s Day.
Services and support
GPs visit residents at Wade House regularly and as the health centre is very close to the home, so it’s easy for residents to see a GP there or here at the home. There’s a dental practice within the health centre too. And a range of other health professionals, including chiropodists and opticians, visit residents here whenever they’re needed.
We have two hairdressers who come in on different days each week. Representatives from various churches visit to hold services for residents and some people attend services in the community with their families.
