Our lifestyle team pride themselves on organising fun activities, entertainment and outings for residents.
We’ll do anything to bring a smile to a resident’s face and make them feel valued. We organise regular outings to local attractions as well as shops and garden centres. We also take avid rugby supporters to local matches and work hard to enable residents to form new friendships – both here in the home and in the wider community.
Getting out and about
Winchcombe Place is in a great location close to major road links as well as Newbury station, so we’re handy for visiting friends and family. We’re also in a great spot for outings. Newbury Racecourse is just up the road, as is the pretty Kennet and Avon Canal with its many river trips. Further afield are the historic towns of Henley and Marlborough and stunning stately homes like Highclere Castle (better known as Downton Abbey).
For those keen to stay closer to home, the care home’s gardens are a lovely spot for sitting and enjoying the sunshine and bird life. We have courtyard and patio areas, wheelchair-friendly pathways (all of Winchcombe Place is wheelchair accessible) as well as raised beds to make it easier if residents want to help with some gardening.
Linking with the community
Winchcombe Place opened its doors in early 2014. Since then we’ve been busy forging close ties with local schools, nursery groups, charities and churches to help residents to continue to feel a part of the Newbury community. We enjoy visits from entertainers, schoolchildren and even therapy animals. We also like to ‘do our bit’ for charity, and are often baking cakes or doing memory walks for good causes. Our keen gardeners also get involved in Newbury in Bloom.
