A Stratford-upon-Avon home resident has celebrated her 100th birthday and revealed her secret to living a long and happy life – Ryvita.

Dorothy Stupples, from Care UK’s Ambleside, on Evesham Road, marked the impressive milestone on 2nd April, and was joined by residents and team members to toast the special occasion.

100-year-old Stratford-upon-Avon care home resident reveals her love of Ryvita is the secret to a long lifeRevealing her secret to a long and happy life, Dorothy said: “My family think my secret is my determination, but I think my love of Ryvita has helped too! I am thrilled to have celebrated my 100th birthday, and to be surrounded by so many people that love and care about me really was fantastic.”

Enjoying the special day with a slice of birthday cake and a host of special gifts, the team went above and beyond to ensure Dorothy enjoyed a celebration like no other, complete with a safe visit in the home’s new visiting suite from family, a delicious birthday cake, and a very special card from the Queen.

Julia Joy, Home Manager at Ambleside, said: “Everyone had a wonderful time celebrating Dorothy’s birthday, and she was particularly pleased to receive her official card from the Queen.

“Here at Ambleside, we always strive to make an occasion of birthdays, and Dorothy’s 100th was no exception. We had great fun decorating her bedroom, baking her a special birthday cake and of course stocking up on the Ryvita ready for the celebrations!”

Dorothy, who was born in 1921, was born in Middlesbrough and moved to Leeds when she was 8 years old. She worked in her local cinema selling ice cream, before joining the Women’s Air Force as a cook. She met her beloved husband Leslie, who she married in 1949 and went on to have her daughter, Shirley, in 1955.

Dorothy loves knitting, and has continued to pursue her hobby since moving to Ambleside, even knitting jumpers for team members at the home. Dorothy also enjoys keeping in touch with her family, particularly her two granddaughters, Katie and Emma and great-granddaughters Amelia and Freya.
