Mayor joins Ipswich care home residents to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at a care home in Ipswich have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Asterbury Place, on Aster Road, welcomed the Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor John Cook, to mark the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by planting a Silver Birch tree.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including 101-year-old resident, Nora, resident Nora who is 101 and 93-year-old Ivan, who both recall the Queen's coronation back in 1953.

Nora said: “I remember meeting the Queen Mother at St Margaret’s Church in Ipswich. It was a wonderful day and I still remember it to this very day!”

Christine Da Silva, Home Manager at Asterbury Place, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the Mayor of Ipswich, here at Asterbury Place.

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.

“We have many royalists here at Asterbury Place, including Nora and Ivan who were keen to celebrate the Queen’s incredible reign and plant a commemorative tree to mark the occasion. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
