Residents at a care home in Crowborough have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.
Care UK’s Heather View, on Beacon Road, has marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by taking part in the Big Jubilee Lunch, with the team and residents joined millions of people across the UK to share friendship, food and fun.
The team and residents also took part in tree planting for the Queen’s Canopy. The Queen's Canopy is a one-of-a-kind tree-planting initiative created to commemorate Her Majesty's Platinum Jubilee in 2022, inviting people from all across the UK to ‘Plant a Tree for the Jubilee’.
Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including, Ethel Thomas. Ethel’s sister, Vera, worked on the coronation train which The Queen wore at her coronation, along with many other royal outfits.
She said: “I am very very proud of my sister Vera who had the privilege of working on The Queen’s coronation train 70 years ago. I enjoy telling her stories and memories of that special day. I am very much looking forward to the Jubilee events this year.”
Natasha King, Home Manager at Heather View, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Heather View.
“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.
“We have many royalists here at Heather View, including Ethel Thomas, who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
