The royal treatment – Enfield care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Residents at a care home in Enfield have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen. 

Care UK’s Elizabeth Lodge, on Pennington Drive, celebrated the Queen’s official 70-year milestone with a Jubilee themed garden party. Keen for residents to receive the Royal treatment, team members arranged a high tea garden party, with everyone enjoying sandwiches, scones and cakes, thoughtfully prepared by the care home’s head chef. 

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of Jubilee celebrations gone by, including 99-year-old Peggy Garner, who remembers being chosen to be her streets ‘Empire Queen’ at a Jubilee celebration when she was a little girl. 

She said: “We had a street party in Nottingham, and I remember dancing in the street which was decorated with flags. It was a lovely atmosphere, and we all wore our best clothes.”

Michelle Sampang, Home Manager at Elizabeth Lodge, added: “We loved welcoming relatives into the home to enjoy the royal treatment after so long apart!

“The Platinum Jubilee offers the perfect opportunity to get together with loved ones and celebrate the last 70 years of both the Queen, and the wonderful residents, incredible reigns. Many residents have fond memories of celebrating the silver, golden and diamond jubilees with their families and communities, and we were keen to ensure the Platinum Jubilee was no exception!
