The royal treatment – Eye care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Residents at a care home in Eye have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen. 

Care UK’s Hartismere Place, on Castleton Way, has marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a street party complete with afternoon tea, traditional decorations, and live music.

 

The occasion was enjoyed by the many royalists living in the home, including resident Janet, who has met the Queen on more than 50 occasions. Janet, whose husband was the former Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police, had dinner with the Queen at Windsor Castle and regularly attended state banquets in London and garden parties at Buckingham Palace.

Marie Reeve, Home Manager at Hartismere Place, said: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Hartismere Place. 

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood. 

“We have many royalists here at Hartismere Place, including Janet, who we knew would be keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
