The royal treatment – Knebworth care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at a care home in Knebworth have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Knebworth, on London Road, has welcomed local pupils from Knebworth Primary School to mark the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a very special tea party. Residents and their younger friends enjoyed cakes, scones and sandwiches prepared by the home’s head chef as part of their special celebration.

Residents were also given the royal treatment over the bank holiday weekend too, enjoying a jubilee-themed performance from Troubadour Productions and a high tea with friends and relatives.

The activities have encouraged residents to spend time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including 86-year-old Margaret Luck, who has always had a keen interest in the royal family. Margaret was a Brownie leader at the time of the silver jubilee and took her Brownie group to the Codicote village fete celebration. The event was attended by the Queen Mother, who Margaret was delighted to meet in person.

Vera Moreira-Henocq, Home Manager at Knebworth, said: “Intergenerational activities are a huge part of life here at Knebworth, which is why we loved being able to celebrate the jubilee with the pupils of Knebworth Primary School.

“These relationships can be beneficial for both sides and can provide older people with a sense of purpose and fulfilment. This is the first jubilee the children have really experienced, and residents loved telling their younger friends all about the traditional celebrations they have enjoyed in their lifetimes and were thrilled to be able to pass these onto the next generation.

“We’d like to say a huge thank you to Knebworth Primary, Troubadour Productions and our extended Knebworth family for joining us to mark the occasion – we can’t wait to welcome everyone back for another party very soon!”
