The royal treatment – Stansted care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at a care home in Stansted have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Mountfitchet House, on Coltsfield, has marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a garden party to remember, complete with Union Jack bunting, performances from a live woodwind band and a barbeque prepared by the home’s head chef.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including 67-year-old Ian, who remembers being in the crowd to see the Queen in Newcastle-upon-Tyne and attending a street party for the golden jubilee.

He said: “A great day was had by all at Mountfitchet House. The team did an amazing job, the food was great, and the woodwind band brought some entertainment to the wonderful celebrations.”

Joanna Duke, Home Manager at Mountfitchet House, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Mountfitchet House.

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.

“We have many royalists here at Mountfitchet House, including Ian, who were keen to mark the Queen’s incredible reign and celebrate in style. Everyone had a fantastic time, and we’re already planning our next royal knees up!”
