The royal treatment – Suffolk care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at two care homes in Suffolk have been enjoying Platinum Jubilee celebrations fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Mills Meadow in Framlingham, and Prince George House in Ipswich, have marked the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting street parties to remember.

The team at Mills Meadow decked out the home in Union Jack flags and bunting, and even welcomed Framlingham Town Council to present each resident with a commemorative jubilee mug. Residents also attended the local celebrations in Framlingham, including the village’s community afternoon tea.

At Prince George House, residents spent the week making flags and crowns for a street party to remember, complete with fish and chips, traditional games and entertainment from opera singer, Gina Cristallino.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including 82-year-old Rhona Sturrock who remembers celebrating the diamond jubilee with a street part in her local village.

She said: “The Queen is hardworking, passionate and incredibly committed to this country. She has been fabulous.”

Rebecca Calver, Home Manager at Mills Meadow, added: “We had a wonderful time celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee here at Mills Meadow.

“For older people, and those living with dementia, reminiscing about key milestones, such as previous jubilee celebrations, can help bring back happy memories, as well as prompting conversation and connection with those around them. These positive feelings gained from revisiting fond memories can help decrease stress, reduce agitation, and improve mood.

“We’d like to thank Framlingham Town Council for joining us and inviting us to the Village pageant and afternoon tea!”
