Local care homes invite Suffolk residents to understand dementia

Home news

Three care homes in Suffolk are inviting the local community to a free, virtual event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Wednesday 24h March, from 2pm - 3.30pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual Understanding Dementia event hosted by Care UK’s Glastonbury Court, Davers Court and Cedrus House care homes.

Local care homes invite Suffolk residents to understand dementiaDementia specialist, Dr Nori Graham, who is the Vice President of the Alzheimer’s Society and has extensive experience in healthcare for older people, will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with the condition.

Melissa Cuevas, Home Manager at Glastonbury Court, said: “We know that it can be challenging to look after a friend or relative living with dementia. It’s natural to feel confused about the best way to help your loved one, so our event aims to offer professional knowledge and insight to those who need it – as well as providing a hub for shared experiences.

“We want people to know they’re not alone, and we’re here to offer support. This event has proven popular in the past and we’re looking forward to welcoming local people for an inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The teams at Glastonbury Court, Davers Court and Cedrus House will host the joint event using Zoom, which is very easy to use. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Chantal Sencier, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of the session.

Glastonbury Court, Davers Court and Cedrus House are modern care homes that provide full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, each care home has their very own cinema and hair salon, and there is plenty of space both in and outdoors for relaxation and recreation.
