You name it: Cherry Hinton locals lend a helping hand to local care home

Home news

A local member of the community has helped to name the suites at a brand-new care home in Cherry Hinton.

Local people in Cherry Hinton took part in a competition to name the four suites at Care UK’s new care home, Heathlands House, on Bullen Close.

You name it: Cherry Hinton locals lend a helping hand to local care homeMembers of the community, including local history enthusiasts, came up with names that have cultural or historical significance to them and the local area. Once residents begin to move into the home later this year, it is hoped that the recognisable suite names will prompt memories and conversations.

The home team officially unveiled the names and the story behind them, as the suites will be known as the ‘Uphall Suite’, ‘Rectory Suite’, ‘Mallets Suite, and ‘Netherhall Suite’, chosen by local resident Amanda Smith, and inspired by the four historic manors of Cherry Hinton.

Sharlene Van-Tonder, Home Manager at Heathlands House, said: “As we look forward to welcoming the first residents to our new home later this year, the all-important naming of the suites within the care home is a key consideration – and this presented an excellent opportunity to reach out to the people who know the area best.

“The ideas that the community put forward were all of a very high standard and have truly inspired us – we’re really pleased with the four final names, and thrilled to finally unveil the story behind them.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home, which is set to open later this year, will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
