Welcome to Appleby House – an Epsom care home rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC.
Our Surrey care home has a far-reaching reputation for its innovative approach to older people’s care, including dementia care. So we were delighted to be rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the English care regulator, in April 2019.
The CQC gave us a glowing report that details the many ways we deliver exceptional care and support to residents and their families. In fact, we received ‘Outstanding’ ratings in four of their five key areas, with a ‘good’ in the fifth. Ours is the first Surrey care home to achieve this.
Entirely tailored to your loved one
The report mentions how, “the love and warmth towards people [was] something you could feel from the minute you walked through the door.” Everyone here at Appleby House – from residents and relatives to colleagues and friends in the local community – is considered part of the Appleby ‘family’.
We find out all we can about your loved one’s interests, needs and values so we can match them to a suite in the home where they can be with likeminded people. For example, some female residents prefer female company, so we have a suite purely for ladies, staffed by female colleagues.
Our inclusive approach to care
Our CQC report details how we find innovative ways to support people to make choices about their daily lives. For example, we use a coloured dot system that people can place next to the statement that best sums up their view or preference. That way, even people who may struggle to communicate effectively are still included in decisions and the running of the home.
Ours is a creative, dynamic and exciting care home, where we’re always finding new ways to make life better and exciting, whether it’s creating an ice-cream parlour to help residents to boost their calorie intake, or making our hair salon more multi-purpose, with a barber shop and nail bar included.
Art is a very strong theme at Appleby House – we even have our own art studio, art gallery and artist-in-residence, and our care suites are named after famous artists. We support residents to make beautiful artworks, whether they were keen artists in their younger years, or haven’t lifted a paintbrush since their school days!
