We provide residential and respite care and can also care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, as well as physical disabilities. We also have a specialist dementia suite on the first floor, which provides the very latest care for residents living with dementia. Find out more here.

A home with character

The Terrace is named after the historic Georgian paved promenade in the centre of our lovely Yorkshire Dales market town of Richmond. We’re located in a quiet part of town but we’re close to the town centre, with its shops, cafes and historic buildings, and those residents who want to are welcome to head into town to get whatever they need.

The home used to be a Victorian family home, and still includes many of its original features, like attractive ornate stonework and high ceilings. Each bedroom has its own special character. Some are very spacious, some offer fantastic countryside views and others open onto our gardens and have their own patio area, so there really is a room to appeal to everyone.

Unique care and support

New visitors to The Terrace immediately notice the lovely relaxed atmosphere of the home. For a start, we don’t believe in having set visiting hours. This is our residents’ home, so their families and friends are welcome to visit at any time, day or night. They’re welcome to help with their loved one’s morning or evening routine, to take part in our activities, or simply to have some quality time with their loved one. As a result, there’s a genuine family atmosphere here.

When a new resident moves into The Terrace we work very hard with them and their loved ones to understand what makes them tick. That means finding out all about their lives, what they’ve done, their passions, interests and hobbies, and what their everyday routines have been. Then we incorporate everything we know into their care and support plans, so that everything, from their physical care, through to the activities we plan, and even the meals we create, is tailored to their exact needs.

Supporting role

Every member of the team at The Terrace is passionate about supporting each resident’s family in any way we can, from the moment they look around the care home right through their loved one’s time with us. We get to know family members as well as we do the residents themselves. It’s our job to help them to enjoy wonderful quality time with their loved one while we look after all aspects of their care.

We run a popular monthly family support group where relatives can get to know each other and share their experiences over a cup of tea or a glass of wine.

Keeping active and independent

We believe that being active and involved is vital to continuing to enjoy life, so we make sure that there is always a choice of activities for residents to enjoy every day, whether it’s quizzes, baking, arts and crafts, or catching up with our many visitors.

The Terrace is a busy member of the local community. We’re an established home and have developed some strong links with various organisations - church groups regularly come and see us, as do some terrific professional entertainers and school children often pop in to put on performances or just to chat to the residents about their lives. The regular visits from the Pets as Therapy animals are always a highlight too. Find out more about what we get up to on a daily basis.
