Many catering colleagues join us from restaurants or hotels where they’re used to working long hours late into the night. In a care home, you’ll work more sociable hours, and you’ll also have the opportunity to build relationships by getting to know residents and their tastes and preferences. This is a role where you can really make a difference.

A closely-knit team of managers, carers, nurses and support colleagues – and each of us is dedicated to your loved one’s care, health and wellbeing.
I have a genuine passion for providing high-quality person-centred care, which is what Care UK is all about. We don’t just focus on clinical care; emotional and social wellbeing is vitally important too. For me, ‘good enough’ is not the standard we should aim for, it is about supporting residents and enabling them to be as independent and active for as long as possible.
I have a level five diploma in leadership and management for adult care. I have also completed essential training in safeguarding, health and safety, infection control and person-centred care.
I’ve supported other homes as a manager before and led a previous home through its first CQC inspection. That was a real highlight for me because it achieved a ‘good’ rating in all five key areas.
In my role, it is important to be extremely organised and to have excellent communication skills. I would say that emotional intelligence, empathy and compassion are important too. You also need to be patient, approachable and be able to resolve conflict and work under pressure. I think it’s crucial to instil a working culture where dignity and respect are default behaviours that colleagues and residents benefit from.
It always makes me proud to see the positive difference we make to residents’ lives. Especially when we see them achieve something they thought they couldn’t do. I also enjoy my walk-arounds which allows me to chat to residents and colleagues.
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family, go shopping and on walks. I also love it when we get the chance to go away for weekend breaks and holidays to recharge.
