I have a Diploma in Higher Education in Nursing and a BA in nursing. I also have a NEBS management certificate.
I’ve worked in management since 2001, so I have many years of experience. My last role was also as a care home manager for another organisation where we won care home of the year twice. It was a terrific achievement and one I am really proud of.
I chose to join Care UK because Mowat Court has a good reputation and is also in a great location for me as it is closer to home. I am looking forward to continuing the great work that is already being done here.
In my role, you need to be hard working and be a good communicator. As a manager, you also have to be willing to support colleagues and help them progress in their careers should they want to. For me, it is important that colleagues, residents and their relatives feel I am available to them, to listen and to provide help when it’s needed. Being able to listen and act on feedback is critical.
One of the best parts of working in a care home is the interaction between people. My favourite aspect is being able to get to know residents, their families and finding out what we can do to make things even better. We are all here to make a positive difference to people’s lives; when we do, it is so rewarding.
Outside of work, I love spending time with my grandchildren. I also enjoy cycling and yoga.
