Trusted to care

A closely-knit team of managers, carers, nurses and support colleagues – and each of us is dedicated to your loved one’s care, health and wellbeing.

For me, the most important aspect of my role as home manager, is making sure every resident feels safe, valued and truly at home. I believe that care should be centred around each individual and designed to support their dignity, independence, happiness and wellbeing. Building trust is at the heart of what we do. It is important that families also feel reassured and confident that their loved ones are cared for with compassion and respect.

Before becoming home manager, I was a regional business manager, also for Care UK and have previously studied finance related courses. I am currently completing a nursing qualification. I was particularly drawn to Care UK because it is an organisation that is committed to supporting colleagues and residents. Positivity and teamwork are the culture, and everyone is valued.

To be a successful home manager, you need to be compassionate, patient and genuinely caring. You also have to be committed to residents’ wellbeing and quality of life. Good communication and listening skills are also essential to building trusting relationships, not just with residents, but with their families and with colleagues. A home manager should also be approachable, well organised and be able to lead by example, creating a positive and supportive environment.

The best part of the day for me is spending time with residents and seeing them happy, comfortable and engaged with daily life. Whether it’s having a conversation, seeing residents enjoy activities, or hearing positive feedback from families, those moments are the most rewarding because they remind me why I do this.

Outside of work, I enjoy gardening, travel, reading and swimming.
