A closely-knit team of managers, carers, nurses and support colleagues – and each of us is dedicated to your loved one’s care, health and wellbeing.
The most important part of my role as manager is to ensure colleagues have the support they need to make a positive difference in residents’ lives.
In my role, it helps to have a good sense of humour. It is no secret that working in care can be stressful. Being able to see the funny side or the positives in a situation, can make a big difference.
I have two degrees, one in history and another in mental health nursing. I also have a level five diploma in leadership and management. My years of study have stood me in good stead and helped me rise to the challenge of transitioning from deputy manager to manager.
My own progression means I am really proud of the part I can play in supporting colleagues with their own training and development too. It’s rewarding to see them progress professionally.
I joined Care UK for its positive culture and approach to care which focuses on giving residents choice. As a provider, Care UK also recognises how important training is – giving teams the tools and skills they need to give the best care possible.
Although I spend a lot of time at my desk, I value the time I can spend with residents. Listening to them and getting to know them are my favourite moments of each day. It serves as a reminder of what it is we do and why it is important.
Outside of work, I love to go carp fishing. I can spend up to a week just relaxing and reflecting at the side of a pond with friends. My son and I also indulge in airsoft. It’s a team game where you dress up as soldiers and arrange battles with others.
