The experts in respite care

We’re here to support you with short-term stays in our care homes as and when you need them, and our advance respite stays are perfect for helping you and your loved ones to plan ahead.

Care UK is well known for its excellence in residential, nursing and dementia care, but did you also know that we also offer short-term respite stays?

Anyone that supports an older loved one at home will know that it can sometimes be physically as well as emotionally challenging. Even if you have the additional support of care at home, the extra reassurance that a care home offers, where help and support is just seconds away, 24 hours a day if needed, can make a real positive difference to both their, as well as your, peace of mind. We even have the option of booking advance respite stays to help you plan ahead.

"The staff were very caring. Lots of activities. It lives up to the expectations of home from home. Made many friends with the residents and I would certainly go there again.”

Part of caring successfully for another person is also being able to care for yourself, and having some time to recharge can be invaluable. We have also found that a great deal of carers say that having access to respite care has helped strengthen their relationship with their mum or dad, as it’s meant they’ve able to step back temporarily from their role as carer and spend time again just enjoying each other’s company as a family, reassured that their loved one’s care needs are being met.

“I was only a resident for three months but to anyone needing to be looked after… The staff are very friendly and professional. The entertainment team work very hard to keep you happy and entertained. The medical staff really do their best to look after anyone who needs care."

Some respite residents choose to join us for a short stay to help them get their health and confidence back again. This could be if they’ve been feeling under the weather, or after a period in hospital. It can give them the extra time they need to recover before they go back to their own home. The entire care home team are experienced at improving the wellbeing of older people, and they work with each resident, even those on respite, to develop a full care plan that includes not only the best of care, but also daily group and one-to-one activities, entertainment, and delicious and nutritious meals freshly cooked by our in-house chef.

"All the staff, the nurses, carers, housekeeping and kitchen were fantastic. Totally focused on my wellbeing, supportive, encouraging with my rehabilitation, in fact, I don't think I would have progressed as quickly as I did without them. Despite a challenging time with COVID-19 they remained positive, always with a reassuring smile on their face. It was like being part of one big happy family. It's caring with a capital C."

Respite stays can be as short as a fortnight, and our care home is able to offer respite reservations some time in advance. Many residents choose respite as a one off, or as a regular break, before heading back home, but some may choose a respite stay as a way to try care home life before choosing to move into a care home full time. We realise moving into a care home is a big decision and having the experience of a respite stay once – or even several times over a longer period if needed – can help make a permanent move at a later date a little easier. This also means you’ll already know many of the team and other residents, and understand the positives that care home life has to offer.

Talk to our friendly team on 03339 200 748 and we’ll be happy to help with any questions you may have – including how to reserve a respite place in advance now.
