Nursing home demonstrates leading edge technology for residents

Company news

A new proactive care monitoring system designed to enhance the dignity and independence of residents has been introduced at the Care UK run Beech Hurst Nursing Home in Haywards Heath.

Called LifeSys, it is a monitoring system that is tailored to the individual needs of those being cared for. Without being intrusive, it protects the welfare of residents at Beech Hurst when they are alone in their rooms. Carers are alerted to events via a pager which they carry with them. If left undetected such events could lead to distress, injury or ill health.

LifeSys prevents problems from occurring. The latest sensor technology combines a bed and door sensor, and can also raise the alarm if there is minimal movement from people nearing the end of their life. The bed sensor protects residents from potential falls, while the door sensor reduces the risks from wandering.

An Inco sensor detects moisture and provides an early alert for bed sores and the discomfort of lying wet in bed. A central controller allows alarms to be personalised.

Jackie Cox, Beech Hurst home manager, said:We always seek to deliver the highest standards of care and being able to respond quickly to potential falls, unattended wandering and incontinence, is a big step forward for us.

“This technology has helped improve staff efficiency, as they know immediately when and where they are needed, and why. It is an excellent system which has been welcomed by residents and staff alike. It gives everyone greater peace of mind.

“It is also easy to install and maintain. We have already seen the benefits from using it and I am sure we will have many good years of use from it.”
