Eagle-eyed Foxbridge House residents enjoy birdwatch weekend

Residents at Foxbridge House took part in the world’s largest garden wildlife survey – and it was a flying success!

Eagle-eyed Foxbridge House residents enjoy birdwatch weekend

This year’s RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch took place in the last weekend of January, and residents at Foxbridge House, on Sevenoaks Road, were well prepared, with bird feeders filled and binoculars in hand.

The birdwatch preparations started earlier in the month, when residents made bird feeders and placed them in prime spots around the garden, to entice more wildlife into the home’s sounds.

Throughout the weekend, residents recorded the number of birds and other wildlife species that visited – data which will be used by the RSPB to monitor trends and understand how different species are doing.

Carol McCormack, home manager at Foxbridge House, said: “The Birdwatch is always a popular weekend here at Foxbridge House, and we had a lot of fun preparing for this year’s event. The residents love seeing all the creatures that visit the garden and we feel a great sense of pride that we’re contributing to the RSPB’s nation-wide survey, and hopefully helping future generations to understand more about our birds.

“The residents also experience great personal benefits from the birdwatch, as being outside among the seasonal sounds and sights is a great sensory experience – particularly for those living with dementia.”
