Hip and happening: Care homes in harmony on International Peace Day

Home news

Two care homes in the region joined forces on International Peace Day (21 September 2019) to host a 1960s-themed ‘peace party’. Residents and team members from Care UK’s Priors House, in Leamington Spa, invited nearby Perry Manor care home in Worcester, to join them for a fun-filled hippie-inspired party, complete with costumes, cake and chart-toppers.

The two care homes, which regularly enjoy shared events and celebrations, were entertained by local band, The Hanksters, who serenaded residents with hit songs from the hip and happening era.

The celebration motivated residents to share stories and experiences of the ‘swinging sixties’ and even inspired an impromptu jam session with a 99-year-old guitar-playing resident.

Home manager at Priors House, Francine Summers, commented: “Lots of residents regularly talk fondly of how much they enjoyed the fun and adventures they had their younger years, and with many recalling the highlights of the 60s era, here at Priors House, we decided to go back in time to enable residents to relive memories of Beatlemania, flares and flower power. The whole afternoon was a real success.”

Priors House, on Old Milverton Road in Leamington Spa, is a state-of-the-art Care UK home, providing full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own cinema, coffee shop and hair salon, with plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
