New team at Southmead care home wows national quality inspectors

Home achievement

A Southmead care home which has been praised by national inspectors for its warm and friendly atmosphere has announced its new senior team.

Nicole Anderson, who took the helm of Care UK’s Trymview Hall, on Southmead Road, in September, helped the home secure an overall ‘Good’ rating in their first full review since opening, following an unannounced inspection by the Care Quality Commission’s (CQC).

The home received ‘Good’ ratings in all five categories, including safety, effectiveness, level of care, responsiveness and having a well-led service.

New Home Manager, qualified nurse Nicole Anderson, boasts nearly 10 years of experience in care home management, and has a proven record of securing ‘Good’ and ‘Outstanding’ CQC ratings for homes she worked with. Her career highlights include working in the Caribbean to recruit additional, skilled care home nurses.

Nicole will have the support of Customer Relations Manager Nicola Wolff-Donitz, who also has experience working as a qualified nurse for over a decade. Prior to joining the Trymview Hall team, Nicola worked in the medical sales industry, before moving back to the care sector to use her extensive skillset to support families and residents alike.

The inspection, which took place after Nicole took the reins, highlighted Trymview Hall’s tailored care plans, as well as the team’s commitment to ensuring residents are given the opportunity to share their views on every aspect of life at the home, from meals and activities, to care and support.

The report noted that residents are also empowered to remain as independent as possible, which is supported by the home’s high-quality environment, including dementia-friendly decorations to help residents navigate the home as easily as possible. The home’s structure – including homely lounges in each suite – also facilitates the creation of close-knit communities within the home.

Inspectors were impressed with Trymview Hall’s open, positive culture, with team members receiving a high level of training and being given regular opportunities to develop and learn new skills under the direction of the new senior team. A weekly bulletin has also been created so families can receive regular updates on life at the home.

Nicole said: “I am passionate about providing older people with the highest possible standards of care, so I’m thrilled to be bringing my skills to Trymview Hall and the Southmead community.

“Everyone at the home works hard to provide the highest possible standards of care to all residents and their families in a warm, comfortable environment, so I’m proud we received a ‘Good’ CQC rating on our first ever inspection – I can’t think of a better way to kick things off as Trymview Hall’s new Home Manager.

“Every resident is unique – so why should their care plan be any different? We pride ourselves on giving high-quality, person-centred care, enabling residents to lead fulfilling lives in a purpose-built environment that has been designed to promote independence and support those who live at the home.

“I would like to say a big thank you to everyone at Trymview Hall for their dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families. They are what makes our care home a wonderful place to call home for so many residents, and I’m grateful for everything they do on a daily basis.”

To assess service standards at Trymview Hall, the CQC inspectors spoke with team members and residents, and their relatives following the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.

Trymview Hall provides full-time residential and dementia care, with 66 ensuite bedrooms, and has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
