The royal treatment – Solihull care home residents celebrate the Platinum Jubilee in style

Home news

Residents at a care home in Solihull have been enjoying a Platinum Jubilee celebration fit for a queen.

Care UK’s Blossomfield Grange, on Worcester Way, has celebrated the Queen’s official 70-year milestone by hosting a royal themed garden party with family and friends – complete with live entertainment from local singer, Linda Williams.

Keen to celebrate in quintessentially British style, team members decorated the garden with Union Jack flags, bunting and balloons – and everyone enjoyed traditional fish and chips, Pimm’s cocktails, cakes and scones thoughtfully prepared by the home’s talented head chef.

Residents have also spent time reminiscing about their own memories of jubilee celebrations gone by, including resident Stanley, 97, who was lucky enough to attend the Queen’s annual garden party in 2017.

He said: “It was a wonderful day – everything was timed perfectly and the Queen was so tiny and just lovely. It was such a privilege to attend.”

Heather James, General Manager at Blossomfield Grange, added: “We loved welcoming relatives into the home to enjoy the royal treatment after so long apart!

“The Platinum Jubilee offers the perfect opportunity to get together with loved ones and celebrate the last 70 years of both the Queen, and the wonderful residents, incredible reigns. Many residents have fond memories of celebrating the silver, golden and diamond jubilees with their families and communities, and we were keen to ensure the Platinum Jubilee was no exception!

“It was amazing to have the full Blossomfield Grange family back together again after so long. Judging by the smiles on everyone’s faces, it was a huge success, and we are already planning our next get together!”
