Mandi Short

Home Manager

I have worked in care for older people for 36 years, across just five different homes, and have spent much of my career supporting people living with dementia. I enjoy working alongside the team to continually develop the home, ensuring our residents have a meaningful and safe environment in which to live. I also believe it is important that relatives and loved ones feel involved and are part of that journey.

I want to be a familiar face around Miranda House and will be actively involved in getting to know our residents. By working closely with the team, I aim to create a welcoming and supportive home where everyone works together.

At Miranda House, care from the heart means treating residents and their relatives as we would our own family and always being willing to go the extra mile. We also look after and support one another as a team. For me, caring means always doing your best for everyone, taking the time to listen and chat, and approaching everything with compassion.

Outside of work, I lead an active social life and volunteer with my local cycling club, where I help organise events, lead rides, and support the club committee.

As deputy manager, I support the home manager with the day-to-day running of the home.

I lead, manage, and support the team in delivering high-quality care for our residents. I enjoy collaborating with the passionate team and putting a smile on the faces of the residents.

Being the activities lead, I always ensure that I am bringing joy to the residents by planning engaging activities.

Seeing the faces of our residents light up is what makes my job so rewarding.

Head Chef
I have worked in the care sector for more than 30 years, including 20 years as a Head Chef.

I qualified in Catering and Hospitality in 1979 and was delighted to be named Chef of the Year in 2024. I love seeing residents enjoy their meals and take particular pride in creating appetising dishes for those requiring modified diets, ensuring every plate looks as appealing as possible.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my grandchildren and heading to the coast for fishing trips and time on the water with my family.

As part of the front-of-house team, I am responsible for supporting the home manager with day-to-day administration duties and reporting.

I take great pride in my work, I love being able to assist and reassure relatives and the team if they have any queries.

Home support roles

From catering to maintenance, housekeeping to administration, our home support teams play a crucial part in ensuring individuals enjoy an exceptional and safe service every day.

All our teams get to know each person they care for to ensure they provide a service that’s designed around their unique needs and tastes. 

Infection control

Every colleague receives training in infection prevention and control as part of their induction and updates regularly through online and in-person learning. Our dedicated IPC Champions in each home help embed safe working practices and raise awareness of hygiene standards.

Nurses

The nurses at Care UK are highly skilled and receive sector-leading training, which enables them to keep developing expertise in different clinical fields from dementia to palliative care.

Lifestyle

Our dedicated lifestyle teams work hard to organise a range of activities and events at our home. From gardening and baking to quizzes, music sessions and even live entertainment. Above all, we get to know your loved one to make sure our activities are tailored to suit their interests and hobbies.
