Residents at Care UK’s Haven Lodge care home in Clacton are limbering up for their very own Olympics, proving that age is no bar to fun and activity.
Residents will be joined by their families and will be joining in traditional competitions including a three-legged race, an egg-and-spoon race, discus throwing and other fun events in the grounds of the Holland Road home.
Organiser and Activities Coordinator Katie Finneran said: “Many of our residents love sport, but they are not the sort just to watch it on the television. They want to be out competing and having fun.
“Families also want to have fun when they visit their relatives, so this was the ideal way for everyone to have a great day as well as marking the Olympics.
“Many of our residents took part in sport throughout their lives. Just because you change where you live doesn’t mean that you lose interest in the things you love. We do everything we can to keep up our residents’ hobbies, whether that be cooking, gardening or sport.”
The Haven Lodge team will be taking to the track on Monday 25th July. They will also be raising funds for children at Great Ormond Street Hospital with a raffle and tombola.
