Darlington Court’s own GEMS shine out

Home news

Each month Care UK runs an award competition across its homes to find those people who have Gone the Extra Mile (GEMs) and the team at Darlington Court were all delighted to find out that they had won their fourth GEM in a row.

July saw Hostess Tracey Fletcher become the fourth GEM winner, are she was nominated by a resident’s relative, who said: “Tracey always has a smile and cares for the residents, she treat the residents as individuals and always has a kind word for us relatives!”

Tracey followed June’s winner, Carer Ray Lane was also nominated by his colleagues, who describe him as a gentle giant angel who always has a smile and a song, much to the delight of the residents.

In May, Unit Manager Jan Milosavejic was nominated by her colleagues for being a role-model to her team. Their nomination said: “She is always fair and very supportive to her team of staff. She is a good role model and sets high standards. Even when Jan is off duty she will come to work if needed and it is a pleasure working with her.”

Laundry Assistant Sharon Bird got the winning streak underway in April, when she nominated by a resident’s relative, who said: “Sharon goes out of her way to make sure my husband always receives his laundry promptly. She will even bring it up to him outside of her usual routine and will do a washing load especially for him. It means a great deal to him and also to me as I know he is being very well looked after.”

Home Manager Linda Clements said: “I could not be prouder of my team, they all work to ensure each and every resident has a good day every day and they understand that relatives need care and support too. It is nice to know that their high standards are recognised throughout Care UK.
