A former showgirl took a trip down memory lane in celebration of her 100th birthday.
Cumberland resident Marjorie Augarde was joined by staff, fellow residents and guests for a party to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Miss Augarde was born in Mitcham and attended Singlegate School in South Gardens.
She went on to become a professional dancer and spent many years as a showgirl in London, wearing glamorous costumes, including the iconic feathered headdresses of the time.
Laura Shepherd, the home’s Activities Coordinator organised Miss Augarde’s party and said Miss Augarde was well known and liked by all at the home.
She said: “Marjorie had a wonderful day. She received lots of cards and presents, including an enlarged photograph of her on stage in a very glamorous outfit.
“She is very active and she can still circle her hips, which is amazing at 100 – she puts it down to the years of dancing and keeping fit.
“She also has an uncanny knack with predictions and she has surprised us many times with the accuracy of what she says.”
