Time for a Cuppa – Woking care home invites visitors to support dementia charity

Home news

Residents at Care UK’s Kingsleigh care home are inviting visitors to join them in a fundraising event to support Dementia UK and to raise awareness of the condition that affects 800,000 people in the UK.

Visitors are invited to join the local doctors, dentists, nurses and chiropodists who work with the residents and team at the home in Kingfield Road at the event on Wednesday 6th March between 2 – 4pm.

Dementia UK’s Time for a Cuppa campaign seeks to raise awareness of the condition and the effect it has on the person and the family.

Home Manager Wendy Dodimead said: “We provide expert care for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia and we know that this campaign is very important to people with the condition and their families, which is why we decided to make Dementia UK our charity of the year.”

As well as raising money for the charity through a raffle, visitors will also be able to buy cakes baked by the team, residents and their families.

Wendy said: “Our activities team and chef will be working with the residents the day before the event. They are planning to bake and decorate cupcakes and fairy cakes and I know the residents are looking forward to seeing many of their friends from the local community as well as meeting first time visitors to their home.”

Kingsleigh offers specialist dementia care. There will be information available to take away on the condition from Dementia UK and other organisations and Wendy and her team will be happy to talk to anyone who may have questions, or who may be looking after someone with dementia in their own home.

She said: “We are fortunate that Care UK is at the forefront of work in dementia care and we will be only too happy to share any experience or ideas we have with carers.”
