Croydon care home manager scoops national award

Home news

Thanks and praise from a resident’s daughter has won a Croydon care home manager a national award for her outstanding commitment to residents at Care UK’s Heavers Court.

Garmit Wright, who has managed Heavers Court for five years, was nominated for the award by Jennifer Jones, whose mother has lived at the home in Selhurst Road for eight years.

She told judges: “Garmit is extremely caring and treats all the residents like family. She is always approachable, understanding and she has a no-nonsense approach known by all at Heavers Court.

“Although Garmit has very high standards she also has a great deal of empathy for those with problems and she will always try her best to help solve them.”

Garmit was also nominated by other relatives and by members of her own team who not only praised the care she gives to residents but also told judges about her commitment and leadership in developing the team, their skills and their attitude to caring as a profession.

Garmit, who was presented with her award by Care UK’s chief executive Mike Parish on Thursday 14th November at a ceremony in Oxford, said: “I was very touched to be nominated by so many people. As a manager, the most rewarding thing is to hear from residents, relatives and your team that you, and your efforts, are valued and appreciated.

“At Heavers Court the whole team works to ensure residents have genuine choices about their care, food and activities; their wellbeing is central to all we do. The team also work hard to support the residents’ relatives and each other and I would like to share this award and my thanks with them.”

The awards were open to all Care UK homes and wellbeing centres across the country.
