Open Day Success at Cumberland Care Home

Home news

A 1940s themed street party complete with traditional music and food was the order of the day at Cumberland care home at Whitford Gardens when it welcomed the people of Mitcham through its doors last week as the care home took part in National Care Home Open Day.

Run by leading health and social care provider Care UK, Cumberland care home pledged its support for the annual initiative, which aims to dispel myths around the care environment, changing perceptions of care homes and connecting residents with their communities.

Visitors enjoyed a variety of food, refreshments and interactive games and took part in tours of the home. Cumberland care home’s team was also on hand to answer any questions and conducted tours of the care home.

Tamba Lamina, home manager at Cumberland, said: “National Care Home Open Day provided a fantastic opportunity for the team at Cumberland to invite local people to take a closer look at the care home.  It was a pleasure to meet and greet all of our visitors and everyone enjoyed the activities.

“We hope that by opening our doors we have challenged any preconceived ideas about care homes and we have demonstrated how the modern care environment is warm and inviting, and plays an important role in the community.”

Those who visited Cumberland picked up complimentary copies of Care UK’s first-person guides - ‘As Easy As ABC’ guide and the recently launched ‘Listen, Talk, Connect’. The guides provide practical information and tips to those caring for loved ones living with dementia, as well as advice on how to communicate with a loved one in a care home and make the most of their visits.

Cumberland has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives.  The home offers a range of services including nursing care, specialist dementia care and respite care.
