The free seminar will take place at De Vere Venues Hotel on the Cheadle Royal Business Park and is the first opportunity for members of the public to meet members of the team from the new £9.2 million care home, Abney Court.
Andrew Page, chartered financial planner at Ashcourt Rowan, will lead the free event which will provide information and guidance on funding long term care – whether caring for someone in their own home or considering a care home for a loved one.
According to recently appointed home manager at Abney Court, Mark Shockledge, an ageing population means there is a growing need to open up access to expert advice for those who are planning future care for loved ones.
He said: “It was recently revealed that by 2030 there will be more than two million people aged 65 and over in the UK with no child living nearby to give care if needed. This means more and more people will be worrying about the future care of loved ones, and how the care will be funded is one of the most important practical considerations.
“We understand having access to the right information and clearly delivered advice can help families make sense of their available options. We have therefore invited Andrew along to lead this free event and wanted to give the public an opportunity to meet members of the team before Abney Court opens in 2015.
“We seek to offer practical support and guidance for the people of Cheadle and surrounding areas and this free seminar marks the start of a range of events that we are planning to host in the future.”
Abney Court is set to open in April 2015 and benefits from being situated inside the grounds of the historic Abney Hall, where notable figures such as Agatha Christie and Prince Albert once stayed. With Abney Park literally on the door step, future residents will be able to take full advantage of the idyllic location and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.
The care home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives with features including a café, a cinema room, a hairdressing salon and library. There will also be a sun-filled garden room and wheelchair-friendly landscaped gardens.
