From 11am until 4pm, the team at Abney Court will be opening the doors to the care home for a free family-friendly event. The day is in celebration of Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative to create lasting relationships between care homes and their local communities.
Visitors are invited to turn back the clock and enjoy a ‘swinging 60s’ themed party. The Care UK team will be dressed in clothes from the era, 1960s classics will be performed by William Allen, and films from the decade will be screened in the care home’s cinema. There will also be food and drink inspired by the 1960s, and fun for all the family with face painting and garden games.
Tracy Mitchell, home manager at Abney Court, said: “Care Home Open Day is about connecting people and enriching the lives of residents through building lasting relationships with the local community across the generations.
“Opening our doors is also a great opportunity to show what life is really like in a modern care home; and we hope to change any preconceptions people might have while also showing everything Abney Court has to offer.
“We have got a fun day of activities planned and are really looking forward to getting behind Care Home Open Day on Friday 17th June and welcoming the people of Cheadle, and surrounding areas, to be a part of it.”
Visitors to the Care Home Open Day event at Abney Court will also be able to pick up their copy of Care UK’s Eating as we Age. The latest in a series of free guides for family carers, Eating as we age is packed with hints and tips for keeping healthy and hydrated in older age.
