Team behind £6million Horsham care home celebrates ‘topping out’

Home news

One of the UK’s leading independent care home providers, Care UK, has moved a step closer to delivering a new multi-million pound care home in Horsham, West Sussex, with a ‘topping out’ ceremony held on site to mark the latest construction milestone.

The Horsham District Councillor for Holbrook East, Councillor Andrew Baldwin, joined with the team from Care UK and representatives from development and construction partner, Castleoak, to place the final tile on the roof of Skylark House care home, which is situated just on St Marks Lane.

Part way through the 62-week construction programme, the project is on track to create up to 120 jobs when the care home is fully commissioned and welcomes its first residents in November 2016.

Richard Smith, head of care home development for Care UK, said: “As the latest addition to a growing portfolio of residential care homes, this highly impressive new development represents a major investment for Care UK.  When complete, the care home will boost the provision of quality residential care for up to 82 older people in Horsham and beyond, as well as creating jobs for local people.

“We take a great pride in the build quality, layout and design of each individual care home – not least because these are all very important factors which can greatly impact the everyday experiences of those living in a care environment.

“As work continues apace in Horsham, Care UK’s vison for the home is well on the way to being realised and we wanted to take the opportunity to acknowledge progress and celebrate the topping out with our construction partners and other stakeholders.”

James Player, construction director at Castleoak, added: “We are proud to have been given the opportunity to build yet another exciting project for Care UK. The fact this is our 16th care home for Care UK is a glowing endorsement of the relationship we have built with the healthcare provider over the past 10 years.

“Together we are focused on delivering a first class environment for the future residents; and I am confident the dedication and attention to detail our team and supply chain have applied to this project will be demonstrated in the completed care home in Horsham.”

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives while promoting independence, Skylark House will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities.  The layout of the building will also facilitate the creation of close knit communities and will be configured into a series of individual suites with a dedicated lounge/dining room.  Each bedroom will have an en-suite wet room, together with a flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed, and a 24-hour nurse call system.
